The Press-Enterprise - Corona,CA...Fifth-grader Joey Camarillo got the message when he heard former major league baseball player Matt Luke speak Tuesday. To get over slights, Luke said, rely on friends and family, and value your strengths.
As a child, Luke was teased for a birthmark but found respite on the baseball diamond, where the focus was elsewhere.
"It was about how he played," said Joey, 11, recounting the speech the former player for the Dodgers, Angels and Yankees gave to some 400 elementary school students gathered at Santiago High School.
Whether it's getting picked on or pushed around, many students say they are bullied at least occasionally, says the California Healthy Kids Survey....
