Rodney Skager has been the Director of the California Attorney General's Biennial Survey of Student Substance Use in California public schools since 1985. At UCLA he has taught graduate courses in counseling and personality theory, quantitative and qualitative research methods, substance abuse counseling and intervention and undergraduate courses on adolescent development, educational psychology, and AOD prevention education. He has published research and theory on prevention, prevalence of substance use among youth, and correlates of substance abuse in the youth population. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Phoenix House of California and a consultant to WestEd and the Drug Policy Alliance. He has evaluated school and community programs for at-risk youth, gang prevention, alcohol and drug use prevention for youth, and professional training in the addictions. He has worked with community agencies serving alcohol and drug-addicted clients, treatment facilities, and industrial employee assistance programs as well as school-based prevention programs. Recently he conducted an on-site study of the Police-in-Schools Program (Victoria, Australia), a harm reduction approach that focus on child and youth safety including drug and alcohol use. He is a frequent speaker or facilitator at workshops, conferences, and community forums on incidence, prevention, and intervention. These activities include recent work in Australia, Greece, Italy and Puerto Rico.

Skager holds a B.A. from the University of Redlands and a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles.
