In response to the Child Abuse and Prevention Treatment Act (CAPTA), which requires referrals for early intervention services for children younger than 3 years who have been abused and neglected, the Center for Prevention & Early Intervention (CPEI) at WestEd helped develop a summit and follow-up partnership working sessions.
This work was for the California Department of Developmental Services, Lead Agency for early intervention in California (Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act), and the California Department of Social Services, the agency responsible for Child Welfare Services (CWS).
Topics include screening, working within dual state agency systems and requirements, and successful efforts from the field that ensure young children receiving CWS are appropriately referred, screened, and assessed to receive eligible Early Start services.
