DESCRIPTION This resource provides a research base for addressing systemic racism in schools. The author raises attention to “color-blind” ideology through interviews with teachers, parents, and students. The findings suggest that “color-blind ideology” is a world-view held by dominant-group Whites in the U.S. who seek to deny the existence of systematic racism, maintain cultural inequalities and an unequal status quo, and avoid critical confrontation of racial realities that render disparities in school settings as well as other sectors of society. The author proposes a solution to the effects of “color-blind ideology” that involves engaging middle class, all-White school community in a form of education that is “…critical, multicultural, and focused on racial injustice…”
