Project Description: Designing Professional Development for Teachers of Science and Mathematics (1999) by Susan Loucks-Horsley, Nancy Love, Kathy Stiles, and Peter Hewson served as the foundation for the National Science Foundation-funded Teachers as Learners project. In collaboration with staff from WGBH in Boston, the Museum of Science Boston, and the Education Development Center; WestEd staff provided project leadership and an internal project evaluation.

As a result of this project, 17 video programs and accompanying facilitators guide were developed that provide images of a variety of professional development strategies in K-12 science and mathematics, and a parallel set of professional development strategies to use the images in various professional learning settings. These video examples have served as the basis for the development and ongoing implementation of many content-based professional development programs in science and mathematics across the country.
