Project Description: The Summer Mentoring Institute is a comprehensive and cohesive opportunity for school or district teams of mentor teachers to enhance their mentoring and coaching skills as they work collaboratively with other teams from the region. The overarching purposes of this three-day session and the two follow-up days during the 2000-2001 school year are to provide participants with opportunities to - model exemplary teaching and deepen their knowledge and understanding of the
Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS);
- enhance their understanding of and ability to apply knowledge in the areas of adult development, peer coaching strategies, standards-based analysis of teaching, observation and listening skills, strategies for reflection on practice, the development of portfolios for the purpose of self-reflection and assessment;
- develop or enhance collaborative relationships with colleagues from participating schools and districts; and
- share successful strategies, concerns, and progress during the school year with other schools and districts.
