Project Description: WestEd is evaluating the Massachusetts Department of Education’s Supplementary Educational Services (SES) Program, focusing on implementation and use of the program by districts and providers, achievement improvement of participating students, satisfaction with the services and providers, and the state’s data gathering system and instruments related to this program.

Project evaluation methods include analysis of district-reported data provided by Title I directors, student learning plans, and provider curriculum materials, as well as interviews with providers and questionnaires administered to principals, teachers, parents, and students.

The state program officers who oversee the SES program are using the evaluation findings to revise district reporting mechanisms and tools, and to document district and school use of the services and baseline satisfaction with providers.
