The ways we educate and assess students need to change as quickly as the world in which young people are being prepared to live and work. This guide helps communities to examine what they want their young people to know and be able to do. It suggests that communities form design teams that consist of representatives from different groups, and then shows them how to use an inquiry-driven process to design schools in which learning, teaching, and assessing are strongly connected. This document provides activities, research syntheses, descriptions of work from a variety of schools, and recommended readings.
