Great Books Online Community List
The Great Books Foundation offers people of all ages an exciting way to read and discuss outstanding works of literature. As a nonprofit educational organization, they publish reading series for children and adults and conduct training in the Shared Inquiry method throughout the United States and abroad. The Great Books Foundation sponsors free public discussions in cities around the country to encourage conversation about community values and enduring ideas. This web site offers resources, advice, and information to parents and teachers to help child learn to love to read and discuss ideas.

The Literacy Empowerment Foundation is a Non-Profit 501(c)3 book distribution & education organization that is distributing English and Spanish children's books to literacy groups, schools and supplemental reading programs across the United States this school year.

The International Reading Association (IRA)
The International Reading Association seeks to promote high levels of literacy for all by improving the quality of reading instruction through studying the reading process and teaching techniques; serving as a clearinghouse for the dissemination of reading research through conferences, journals, and other publications; and actively encouraging the lifetime reading habit. The goal of the Media Literacy On-line Project is to provide a support service for teachers, and others, concerned with the influence of media in the lives of children and youth. They have created a comprehensive media literacy resource collection to facilitate that objective.

The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE)
The National Council of Teachers of English is devoted to improving the teaching and learning of English and the language arts at all levels of education. The web site provides information about the organization, membership applications, information about upcoming conferences, books and other resources for teachers, and information about current organizational activities and initiatives. National Writing Project
The mission of the National Writing Project (NWP) is to improve the teaching of writing and improve learning in the nation's schools. Through its professional development model, the National Writing Project recognizes the primary importance of teacher knowledge, expertise, and leadership. The web site offers resources to teachers as well as descriptions of Writing Project activities and sites, publications, and more.

National Reading Conference Online
NRC is a professional organization for individuals who share an interest in research and the dissemination of information about literacy and literacy instruction. NRC sponsors a conference each year during the first week in December. In addition to sponsoring an annual conference, NRC publishes a quarterly journal, the Journal of Literacy Research (JLR), the NRC Yearbook, which contains selected papers from the previous year's conference, and the NRC/IRA Literacy Studies Monograph Series. Student Coalition for Action in Literacy Education
The Student Coalition for Action in Literacy Education (SCALE) is a network of college students, adult learners, administrators, literacy practitioners and community partners working to implement and support participatory education and social change work in campus-based literacy programs. SCALE is part of the School of Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
