California Building a Presence for Science (CABAP) CABAP is part of the 26-state Building a Presence network coordinated and supported by the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA). As part of this network, CABAP aims to have a teacher Point of Contact in every California public and private school. CABAP provides resources and information that support more and better K-12 science education for all California students. Center for Assessment and Evaluation of Student Learning (CAESL) CAESL, the Center for the Assessment and Evaluation of Student Learning, is a five-year project funded by the National Science Foundation to improve student learning and understanding in science through focusing on effective assessment. Cultural Validity in Assessment Project: Assessing the Cultural Validity of Science and Mathematics Assessments Funded by the National Science Foundation, this CLE project is investigating the manner in which everyday experience influences the way students interpret and solve science and mathematics test items. In doing so, this project will contribute to attaining equitable testing in science and mathematics for linguistic and culturally non-dominant students. Culture and Language in Education Research Culture and Language in Education (CLE) Research enhances the capacity of learning organizations to provide excellent education for traditionally underserved students. K-12 Alliance The K-12 Alliance joins the professional development programs of CSIN, SPAN, and SS&C to promote change and foster excellence in science and math education. National Center for Improving Science Education (NCISE) Since 1987, the National Center for Improving Science Education (NCISE) mission has been to promote change in policies and practices for science, mathematics, and technology education at the national, state, and local levels; bridge the gaps among research, policy, and practice in the areas of curriculum, teaching and learning, and assessment; and help people make informed and unbiased choices through a range of research, services, and products. Partnership for the Assessment of Standards-based Science PASS works with states, districts, and other education groups to promote and provide low-cost, standards-based science assessments. Quantum Chemistry Tutors The findings from this study will contribute to a better understanding of the general effects of the use of intelligent tutoring software on student learning. Understanding Science Developed at WestEd, Understanding Science is a nationally field-tested professional development program designed to help teachers: Learn major concepts of K-8 science; examine how children make sense of those concepts; and analyze and improve their teaching practice.
