Jo Marie Topps

Jo Marie Topps has been a Regional Director of WestEd's K-12 Alliance since 1992, serving Los Angeles and Orange counties. She provides statewide and local leadership for K-12 Alliance activities, including the K-Post Secondary Hub and the Long-Term Professional Development Program for implementing schoolwide/departmentwide change in science and mathematics.
Topps has been an educator for over twenty-five years, as a teacher reaching students from the elementary school to the university level, and as a professional developer and curriculum developer in science and mathematics reform. She served on the writing committee of the California Science Content Standards and as a reviewer for the Instructional Materials Advisory Panel for the adoption of science materials. She contributed to the California Department of Education's "Program Quality Review Document" and The Science Assessment Facilitator's Guide. She has been a mentor to the National Academy for Science Leadership, a consultant to the BSCS Science Curriculum Implementations Center, chair of the California Science Teachers Association (CSTA) conference 1999, a consultant to the CSTA's Making Connections, a contributor to California's Challenge Standards for Science, and a consultant with community-based science education programs such as Headstart on Science and Summer Science at the Beach.
Topps has an MS in education from California State University, Fullerton.
