Diane Carnahan has been with WestEd's K-12 Alliance since 1998 as the Regional Director for California's Delta-Sierra region and Alameda and Contra Costa counties. She provides statewide and local leadership for K-12 Alliance activities, including the K-6 Hubs, Science Corps, Math Corps, and the Long-Term Professional Development Program for implementing schoolwide/departmentwide change in science and mathematics. Carnahan has worked with teachers and students for over 20 years, mainly in rural elementary schools. She has been a teacher leader with the Bay Area Writing Project; has been a consultant on several California Department of Education committees, including the CLAS Science Advisory Committee; and is a presenter at state and local conferences. She was awarded a Christa McAuliffe Fellowship and developed an interdisciplinary space science program for primary children. Currently, Carnahan's work includes coordinating Teaching Opportunities for Partners in Science (TOPS), a program that recruits, trains, and partners retired scientists and engineers in K-8 schools. She is a contributing author to the science section of the California Formative Assessment and Support System for Teachers (CFASST) Program for Beginning Teachers. Carnahan has an MEd in integrated mathematics and science from Fresno Pacific University.
