Using Technology to Support Diverse Learners

Digital Text / Improving Digital Text / Organization

Organization

How does it work:
Electronic versions of text allow the teacher or parent to rearrange or augment the information presented, in order to reduce frustration and/or increase comprehension.

For one student, an article on geology may be broken up into shorter paragraphs. After each paragraph, key questions about the facts presented are added, possibly with room for the student to write the answers.

Some students will benefit from a summary to be read first. Electronic sources of summaries and test questions can also be found online, from sources such as SparkNotes. You will find chapter summaries for books such as “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets”, Some students will need a reduced amount to read, so you might eliminate less important material.
