WestEd, a nonprofit research, development, and service agency, works with education and other communities to promote excellence, achieve equity, and improve learning for children, youth, and adults. While WestEd serves the states of Arizona, California, Nevada, and Utah as one of the nation's Regional Educational Laboratories, our agency's work extends throughout the United States and abroad. WestEd has 17 offices nationwide, from Washington and Boston to Arizona, Southern California, and its headquarters in San Francisco.
Learning Innovations is WestEd’s northeastern program with offices in the Boston area (Woburn, MA) and near Burlington, VT (Williston, VT). Learning Innovations conducts research and evaluation and provides training and professional development to address a wide range of school, district, and state improvement needs in education and related areas. Learning Innovations is home to the Northeast Regional Resource Center (one of USDOE funded special education technical assistance centers), and is a partner in the New York and the New England Comprehensive Assistance Centers and the Regional Education Laboratory for the Northeast and Islands (REL-NEI) led by EDC in Newton, MA. REL-NEI is funded by the Institute for Education Sciences through a large, five-year contract. The research activities include randomized control treatment studies of educational innovations, secondary analyses of existing data sets, research summaries and syntheses, and analyses of current practices.
This position is with our Learning Innovations at WestEd program and is located in the Woburn, MA office.
Position Description
Learning Innovations at WestEd has a full time Senior Program Associate position in its Woburn, MA office. The position has major responsibilities for research and evaluation, both within the Northeast and Islands Regional Education Laboratory and for other independent contracts. Position requires experience and leadership in planning, conducting, and managing research and evaluation projects, working collaboratively with Learning Innovations Director of Research and Evaluation, other evaluation staff members, and external clients. The position also requires experience and interest in business development.
Responsibilities
· Lead, plan, conduct, and manage research and evaluation projects, working collaboratively with Learning Innovations Director of Research and Evaluation, other evaluation staff members, and external clients. These may include research projects and regional needs assessment work within the Regional Laboratory.
· Maintain communication with clients as well as internal colleagues through consistent in-person, written, and telephone communication, effectively using voicemail and WestEd e-mail.
· Become well-versed in the approaches and expertise of other Learning Innovations staff as well as broader WestEd programs and areas of expertise.
· Participate in a variety of Learning Innovations projects as the need arises.
· Contribute to and lead efforts in proposal development, client outreach, and other forms of business development.
· Perform other Learning Innovations staff responsibilities such as participating in staff and community meetings.
· Participate in the U.S. government security clearance process.
Qualifications
· Doctorate in education or related field, including coursework in research design, as well as qualitative and quantitative methods and data analysis preferred.
· Experience in conducting research and evaluation projects, including qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
· Business development expertise and experience.
· Demonstrated client-centered approach to providing services.
· Experience in/with state departments of education, school districts, schools, or other human service organizations.
· Demonstrated ability to work as a team player and to treat staff and clients respectfully.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Excellent organizational skills.
· Tolerance of ambiguity, including shifting deadlines and priorities.
· Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
· Ability to work under pressure and to complete work by established deadlines.
