about the program

The Center for Prevention & Early Intervention (CPEI) works to strengthen service and support systems for young children and youth with or at risk for disabilities and other special needs and their families. In response to national, state, and local priorities and needs, CPEI staff partner with health, education, human service, mental health, and family support agencies and organizations to provide comprehensive, individualized, and coordinated services to young children and youth and their families. CPEI staff specifically offer foundational and advanced training at both the preservice and inservice levels, technical assistance to parents and professionals, resource development and dissemination, facilitation services, and interagency support.

CPEI has collaborated with many state agencies, including the California Departments of Education, Developmental Services, Health Services, Social Services, and Mental Health, and First 5 California Children and Families Commission. CPEI’s portfolio also includes strong relationships with county-level and community-based agencies and organizations, and colleges, universities, and the Community College Chancellor’s Office for preservice trainings for professionals and paraprofessionals as well as distance learning opportunities.

  • Center for Prevention & Early Intervention directs a number of projects relevant to schools and communities nationwide.
