Nevada Character Education Project
about the project
The Center for Educational Equity at WestEd was awarded a four-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education to design, develop, and implement a Character Education program in Nevada public schools. The Nevada Character Education Project has an overarching goal to teach students caring, civic virtue and citizenship, justice and fairness, respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, and other core values in coordination and consultation with state and local education leaders, parents, and students. The Character Education project will be implemented at eight schools in the Washoe County School District. In addition to teaching character, the project outcomes include developing a Character Education model uniquely suited for Nevada; scientifically-derived data on the success of the model; and documented policies and strategies for embedding character education into their regular curriculum.
