The Storytelling Exchange program integrates language, theater, writing and storytelling to improve sixth graders’ literacy skills. The Tech Tales program expands on those skills and seventh grade students convert their stories into scripts and use computers to create a digital story using sound, pictures, animation, graphics and narration. WestEd was contracted to evaluate the implementation and impact of the program. The evaluation will assess students’ academic achievement, oral and written communication skills, confidence in the arts, artistic ability, achievement motivation and proficiency with technology, as well as teacher integration of the arts and the quality of the teacher training.
