WestEd was the prime contractor developing all elementary, middle school, and high school assessment items for the state of Kansas assessment program.

This program was designed to meet the expectations of the federal No Child Left Behind Act and challenging state content standards.

Staff from the Assessment & Standards Development Services program at WestEd developed assessment items in English language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science. They also facilitated content and bias review activities for all test items.

In addition, WestEd worked with the Kansas State Department of Education to develop its alternate assessment based on modified achievement standards for students with disabilities.
