The Center for the Future of Teaching and Learning at WestEd works to ensure all students have effective, well-prepared teachers who can help them succeed academically. How do we accomplish this? By using evidence-based data, careful analysis, and thoughtful communication to build visibility and understanding of the teaching force and its impact on student learning.

Policymakers, in particular, rely on our reports and policy briefs to inform legislation with the goal of strengthening teaching and learning.

What We Do

• Gather the facts through top quality research, as well as serve as a convener for leading experts in the area of teaching quality
  
• Shed light on critical issues affecting students' learning and the quality of teaching
  
• Clearly communicate findings and recommendations to key audiences who can take or influence action
  
• Find common ground for tough problems by bringing together diverse groups and viewpoints
  
• Build capacity in other organizations by providing information and assistance
  
• Help develop California's teacher workforce data system to ensure informed decision-making
  
• Improve student success in science and mathematics through better teacher preparation and support
  
• Improve educational opportunities for students in foster care
  

In addition, we have a special interest in improving learning conditions in high-poverty, low-performing schools.
