WestEd Eisenhower Regional Consortium (WERC)

about the project

WERC is dedicated to supporting mathematics and science education in the far west region: California, Arizona, Nevada, and Utah.

WERC provides the foundation upon which educators build better math and science programs. We can help you align current curriculum to state standards, access more effective curriculum, and assess how well your students are learning. We help teachers hone their skills and develop meaningful ways of enhancing student participation and interest in math and science.

The WERC Web site provides a wealth of information about our state, regional, and national activities.

EdGateway is our Web-based resource for educators to join online groups, calendar events, and dialogue regarding a variety of issues.

WERC’s primary clients are organizations, projects, and groups that provide training and resources with respect to science and mathematics education. We promote systemic math and science reform in Arizona, California, Nevada, and Utah. WERC also collaborates with the nine other Regional Consortia and the Eisenhower National Clearinghouse (ENC) to provide a coordinated, field-based, national infrastructure for systemic improvement.

We provide resources and information from a regional and national perspective, including ENC information, ENC Access Centers, WERC calendars on EdGateway, WERC Web site lesson plan search, and TIMSS outreach. We promote state-specific enhancement of systemic reform, including extensive work on science and math standards in Utah, California, and Nevada. WERC enhances the work of state and local initiatives by collaborating with partners who also:

  • Subscribe to a systemic approach to reform in math and/or science education;
  • Involve a variety of stakeholders in the process;
  • Attend to under-served student populations; and
  • Commit to long-term efforts.
By providing students and teachers with opportunities to access exemplary resources, to engage in learning as an active, relevant, and empowering process, and to participate in communities of learning and growth, WERC has supported the development of an educational system that truly prepares all students to lead satisfying lives and make meaningful contributions in the 21st century.
