WestEd Controller Ronia Tan manages the agency's Accounting and Finance Department. She oversees fiscal functions including general ledger, accounts receivable billing and collection, accounts payable and disbursements, payroll, budgets, cash management, financial reporting, and auditing.

Tan also serves as WestEd liaison for external and internal audits. Her work has greatly contributed to WestEd's ranking by the federal government as a low-risk auditee.

Under Tan's leadership, the Accounting and Finance Department has become efficient and customer-friendly. She implemented a process in which agency payments to vendors are prompt, resulting in documented vendor satisfaction. Tan also ensures WestEd receives payments from funders on a timely basis. Her work has helped to improve WestEd staff satisfaction as well.

Several years ago, Tan implemented the Accounting Help Desk in which department staff promptly and efficiently assist project staff with general accounting guidelines, procedures, and forms.

Tan serves as site Administrator for WestEd's Los Alamitos, California office, overseeing its daily office operations, and she recently was appointed Chairperson of WestEd's Equity Council. The committee develops ideas for change that improve diversity within WestEd and promote an understanding and appreciation of diversity. Committee members assist the agency's Human Resources Department with the development, review, and implementation of the agency's Affirmative Action Program.

Tan also serves on the agency's Job Evaluation Committee, comprising representatives of WestEd's management staff. Committee members evaluate WestEd employee positions and assign each job a grade that reflects their evaluation of that position.

Tan joined Far West Laboratory for Research and Development, now WestEd, in 1983 as an Accounting Clerk and Receptionist. After receiving her bachelor's degree in accounting from San Francisco State University, Tan was appointed general ledger accountant. She later served as Accounting Manager and was appointed the agency's Controller in 1996.
