Jaime Gonzalez

Research Associate

As a Research Associate in WestEd's Comprehensive School Assistance Program (CSAP), Jaime González works closely with low-performing schools and districts.

González manages the collection and organization of student achievement data and drafts summative reports critical to CSAP's School and District Assistance and Intervention Teams.

He also helps manage WestEd's award-winning school improvement website, SchoolsMovingUp. This interactive website provides resources that help education professionals make sound decisions and take action in their school reform efforts.

González developed WestEd's Schools and Districts Database, which identifies schools and districts where WestEd has provided, or is providing, services. This online database facilitates communication and coordination among WestEd staff who work with schools and districts nationwide, and helps staff identify and articulate the impact of WestEd's collective work.

Additionally, González works on small to large-scale program evaluations encompassing a variety of evaluation designs as well as content areas. He conducts site interviews, focus groups, and classroom observations, and drafts summative reports. He is part of a team of evaluators that is evaluating the Minnesota Department of Education's Refugee Subgrants Program (RSIG). Specifically, González is researching the quality and impact of the Refugee Subgrants and school grants in seven Minnesota school districts.

He also is conducting a multiple-state evaluation of the effectiveness and impact of the Pearson Opening the World of Learning (OWL) early literacy program on children's early literacy development.

González has created and maintained database systems that help program directors and managers use longitudinal data as a means to chronologically detail school and district student achievement by identifying trends and education needs, and measuring performance. González also conducts professional development trainings, site-based interviews, and classroom observations; and facilitates workshops and focus groups.

Previously at WestEd, González worked with the Region XI Northern California Comprehensive Assistance Center. He assisted with the development and implementation of literacy workshops and school site observations based on the Reading Success Network, Secondary Literacy Support Network, and the Reading Excellence Act projects.

Prior to joining WestEd in 2001, González was an English as a second language teacher in South Korea. He also worked for the Migrant Education Program at both the U.S. Department of Education and the California Department of Education.

He received a BA in government from California State University, Sacramento and an MA in education from California State University, Dominguez Hills.
