WestEd Partnership Sends District Leaders to Business School, Receives Kudos From U.S. Secretary of Education
Business School Thinking Can Help in Tough Classrooms, Education Expert SaysWashington Independent — August 3, 2011
"You are doing some of the toughest, most controversial work in education in this country today, and I thank you for your courage."
Clients of the Southwest Comprehensive Center at WestEd (SWCC) recently received these encouraging words from U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. The Secretary addressed a group of principals, state and school district leaders gathered at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business.
As part of a partnership between SWCC and the University of Virginia School Turnaround Specialist Program, leaders from districts across the Southwest are participating in a unique two-year program designed to develop school turnaround leaders.
The program is offered by the Darden/Curry Partnership for Leaders in Education, a unique partnership between the Darden School of Business and the Curry School of Education.
Since 2004, the program has delivered to school district personnel the level of executive education typically received only by top business leaders, combined with ongoing support and resources for the school turnaround process.
