WestEd Helps North Carolina Add Student Growth Data to Teacher and Principal Evaluations
North Carolina to Use SAS® EVAAS® For K–12 in Teacher, Principal EvaluationsNCTechNews — June 29, 2012
As a winner of a federal Race to the Top grant, North Carolina needed a way to add measurement of student academic growth to its state accountability model. The state asked WestEd to evaluate possible measurement systems and make a recommendation.
As a result, student academic growth is now one of several measures used in evaluating the nearly 97,000 teachers and 5,300 administrators statewide.
North Carolina will not make public the evaluations of individual teachers. However, teachers will have access to their own measures of student achievement to help guide their professional development.
