WestEd Approach to Family Engagement Cited as National Example
A New Framework: Improving Family EngagementHomeroom — December 7, 2012
The U.S. Department of Education has unveiled a draft framework for family engagement. The department's official blog, Homeroom, calls out WestEd's Academic Parent-Teacher Teams (APTT) approach as an exemplary type of family engagement strategy in line with the new framework.
Maria Paredes, WestEd Senior Program Associate, developed APTT while working with the Creighton School District in Phoenix, Arizona. APTT replaces traditional parent-teacher conferences with a collaborative and data-driven approach that helps parents become effective academic supports for their children outside of the classroom.
The Homeroom blog includes a link to a video profile of one school's use of APTT.
