Innovation Studies
The Innovation Studies Program creates and disseminates user-friendly information to support educators who want to understand and effectively implement promising policies and practices.

The Innovation Studies program helps educators find promising ideas, understand how they work, and put them into action. To do this, staff conduct descriptive studies and formative evaluations, and use interactive media to enhance the professional learning process.

One of Innovation Studies' signature projects is Doing What Works (DWW), a website that translates research-based practices into multimedia tools and resources that can be used to improve the quality of education. The U.S. Department of Education awarded Innovation Studies a five-year, $15 million contract to continue to develop content and support users of DWW.

Another key initiative is the Center for the Future of Teaching and Learning (CFTL) at WestEd, dedicated to strengthening teacher development policy and practice. CFTL staff accomplish this goal by using evidence-based data, careful analysis, and thoughtful communication to build visibility and understanding of the teaching force and its impact on student learning.

Completion by Design is an Innovation Studies project focused on higher education. This Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation-funded initiative helps significantly improve student completion rates at community colleges.
