Middle school math teachers nationwide are reevaluating their curriculum and teaching processes to meet the new NCTM Standards 2000. To aid with the transition, WestEd is creating a CD-ROM called "Seeing Powerful Mathematics" that will provide teachers and teacher educators with multiple perspectives on standards-based teaching.
Using video from real classrooms, where teachers’ approaches reveal powerful mathematics teaching and learning along with accompanying reflection activities, teaching tips, and help for trying out new practices, the VITAL CD-ROM will help teachers employ math reform approaches in their own classrooms. Upon completion of the project, WestEd hopes to receive further funding to create a CD-ROM series addressing other key issues in implementing standards-based reform in middle school math classrooms.
