Northeast Regional Credential Program (NRC)

Learning Innovations at WestEd has been the clearninghouse for the Northeast Regional Credential Program (NRC) - a teacher reciprocity agreement among the states of New England and New York. From April of 1990 through June of 2006, the NRC program enabled schools and districts to hire the most appropriate candidates for their open positions and provided another avenue for educators to move between states in the northeast and obtain teaching positions. Over the years, more than 4,000 educators have obtained a Northeast Regional Credential. With changes and refinements in state standards and the specific requirements of NCLB for Highly Qualified Teachers, the participating states agreed to sunset the NRC program as of June 30, 2006. Current holders of valid NRC's may still use them until expiration. If you have visited our site for information on the NRC, please be sure you connect with the department of education in the state in which you are interested in teaching to receive the necessary information for your state certification.
