Making Links: A Collaborative Approach to Planning and Practice in Early Childhood Programs
Author:
Janet Gonzalez-Mena,
Anne Stonehouse
"This lovely book gently raises our appreciation for the unique qualities of each child and how much teachers have to gain by developing a true partnership with families. It makes a strong case for any curriculum that enables teachers to use what they learn about children to plan authentic learning experiences. In a time when scripted, one-size-fits-all curricula are entering the field of early childhood education, [the authors] give us an inspiring vision of responsive curriculum and practical strategies for achieving that vision." - Diane Trister Dodge, Founder and President, Teaching Strategies, Inc.

This book is about creating an environment, experiences, interactions, and relationships that help children, birth to age 5, in center-based and family child care programs to have authentic experiences that will promote their development and learning. Rather than focusing on educational activities, the authors emphasize paying attention to the child's whole experience in the program. You'll learn what you need to know about children and their families, how to translate that information into plans and experiences, and how to include parents in the process.
Co-author Janet Gonzalez-Mena has worked as a Faculty Member for WestEd's Program for Infant/Toddler Care Training Institutes since 1991.
