Project Director
Dona Meinders joined the WestEd Center for Prevention and Early Intervention in 1999 as Project Coordinator for the Least Restrictive Environment Resources Project, a California Department of Education-funded grant project, and the Early Intervention Distance Learning Project, a federal grant project funded as a collaborative effort between various California State Universities and the California Department of Developmental Services.
Meinders previously was regional coordinator for the California Confederation on Inclusive Education, where she facilitated inclusive educational programs for students with disabilities at several Sacramento school districts; a complaints investigator for the California Department of Education, Special Education Division; and project coordinator for New Directions-Research, Development and Demonstration Project, a $1 million grant project that researched systemic change efforts to better serve all students and conducted demonstration sites statewide. She also was a special educator teacher for students with severe disabilities and continues to serve as a lecturer in the Department of Special Education, Rehabilitation, and School Psychology at California State University, Sacramento.
Meinders has a BA in child development from California State University, Sacramento, an MA in education from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and holds severely handicapped specialist, learning handicapped, and multiple subject credentials.
