About-Detail Description

Presentations
Staff from the support network make presentations on National Board Certification (NBC) at professional meetings, county offices, and school districts. These presentations—designed to increase awareness of the benefits of NBC and provide an introduction to the candidate process—are scheduled on request. They can be arranged by contacting staff members.

Introductory Seminars
Introductory seminars are intended for people new to the NB candidate process and wanting background information. Participants in these seminars have an opportunity to examine the portfolios for the various certificates, listen to testimonials of candidates describing the impact of the candidate process, and receive some hands-on experience with portfolio entries. These seminars begin at 9:30 AM, end at 2:00 PM, and are free of charge.

Facilitator Seminars
The two-day support provider seminars are designed for folks who want to assist NB candidates and/or organize their own support group. Participants in these seminars gain an in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with portfolio entries and the scoring process. The $250 tuition includes breakfast and lunch for both days and an extensive resource binder.

Network Meetings
The day-long network meetings are typically scheduled semi-monthly and are geared toward people who actively support candidates. These meetings are designed to provide technical assistance and offer opportunities to share expertise and examine common challenges. In addition, up-to-date information on what’s happening on the state and national scene is shared and discussed. These meetings are free of charge.

Online Communication System
Our listserv uses EdGateway, a web-based communication system developed at WestEd. Participants can use the listserv to post announcements, pose questions, and share resources and experiences via email. Participants can also post messages and join in the conversations archived on the website by logging on to National Board Support Network Discussion Groups.
