CLE

Partners

CLE has partnerships with external educational research groups, individual practitioners, and learning organizations. These partnerships contribute to ensuring that theory and practice inform each other. Our projects involve collaboration with university faculty, administrators and teachers in schools and after-school programs, and educational researchers. We actively seek new partners who share our commitment to providing an excellent education for all students, especially those who are traditionally underserved.

Collaborations within WestEd

CLE staff collaborate on various projects with other WestEd programs. We contribute expertise in addressing issues of cultural and linguistic diversity. These collaborations strengthen WestEd's function as a full-service agency.

Assessment and Standards Development Services (ASDS)
CLE staff collaborate on the following:
  • Development of content standards for adult education programs in California (English as a Second Language)
  • Review of content standards and assessments for state department of education or school districts in Arizona, California, Louisiana, Nevada, and Utah
  • Development and review of state assessments for Nevada and West Virginia
  • Development of Utah's Core Criterion-Referenced (CRT) Science Tests
Center for the Assessment and Evaluation of Student Learning (CAESL)
CLE staff advise this NSF-funded project to improve student learning and understanding in science by focusing on effective assessment. CAESL is a collaboration among WestEd; the Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards, and Student Testing (CRESST)/University of California-Los Angeles; the School of Education at Stanford University; the Graduate School of Education at the University of California, Berkeley; Lawrence Hall of Science (LHS); and the Concord Consortium.

Evaluation within a Cultural Context
CLE staff study the influence of cultural context on educational program outcomes including, but not limited to, student achievement. The project examines ways to validly measure what students understand, without jeopardizing their performance by testing them with biased measures.

Teacher Quality Initiative (WREL)
WestEd's Teacher Quality Initiative works with states and teacher education stakeholders to ensure that a coordinated system supports the professional growth of classroom teachers through all stages of their careers. TQI staff contribute to the development of multimedia products and processes to help teachers work more effectively with English language learners.

WestEd Eisenhower Regional Consortium (WERC)
Through this program CLE has relationships with a network of schools, institutions of higher education, rural systemic initiatives, and the National Eisenhower Regional Consortia. CLE staff contribute to ensuring needs of English language learners are properly addressed in materials developed for furthering science education. CLE staff also lend expertise to mathematics and science teacher professional development conducted on Indian reservations.
