Instructional Plan: The curricular and instructional focus of this TIP is the development of language arts and computer science skills through the development of a class newsletter. The students will learn the critical concepts of keyboarding and word processing through video tapes, software tutorials, and a word processing program and will work in cooperative groups to identify the different parts of a successful class/school newsletter. Students will learn all the elements of producing a publication, from computer graphic design with graphics software programs, to research and writing articles, to layout and desktop publishing. The Internet will be a primary resource to access information and research. The final product will be student developed and produced newsletter to be made available to other students and school personnel.Technology Support: 1. A VCR and TV will be used to show Introductory Video 2. Computer and software willbe used for developing Keyborading skills 3. Computer and software will be used for developing word processing skills 4. Computer and software will be used for learning graphics drawing programs 5. Computer and software will be used to publish student products

On-Going Support: 1. Continual access to classroom management and instruction support technologies 2. Collaborating partners will share responsibility for the school newspaper and will be able to exchange knowledge and ideas on the use of the technology 3. Continual access to the POGO technologies during each class, planning and prep period, and direct communication to all POGO staff members via CC:Mail 4. Computer coordinator to assist in the search for an opening video aimed at motivating the student and showing the importance of word processing, computer applications and desktop publishing Estimated time needed to design and implement your TIP: 1. 40 to 50 hours of development time, to include hard disk maintenance 2. During implementation, one day per month to work with collaborating teacher to reinforce and refine the project 3. Computer Coordinator Support: Mini-classes on the technologies: Powerpoint, Excel, Access, FTP, Telnet Lotus, CC:Mail, TA upgrades 4. 10 days before and after school
