1. Instructional Focus:
Content areas/topics: Not applicable.
Process skills: Not applicable.

2. Target Population: Users of CAETI technology.

3. Summary Description: The performers will develop synthetic infrastructures for CAETI that go beyond the information infrastructures that will be deployed in CAETI within the next two years. These synthetic infrastructures are comprised of two mutually supporting and enhancing components:
  1. Continually available information infrastructures that provide education/training capabilities at times and places where they are not currently available.
  2. Participatory semantics which address issues of meaning for human and computer participation in information infrastructures e.g., simulating, reasoning, and modeling of such participation.
This project is aimed at incorporating ever advancing infrastructures into existing CAETI projects. It concerns itself with plans for maintaining and advancing currently adopted CAETI projects in the future. No one in the field will be able to advance CAETI projects as new technology emerges. The performers in this project are advanced, high-tech researchers who can advance CAETI projects and ensure that CAETI projects will endure over the long term.

4. Training and Staff Development: 5. Technological Resources Needed: Varies depending on the needs of CAETI projects in the future.

6. Intended Outcomes:
Students: Not applicable.
Teachers: Not applicable.

7. Instructional Time Required: Not applicable.

8. Role of the Pilot Teacher(s): Not applicable.

9. Example(s) of the Use of this Product (Scenario): It is the year 2000. A school is using a CAETI program developed in 1996. Some of the technology employed has become obsolete as much better technology emerges. The concept of the CAETI program is still very good, however, and the school personnel want to continue using it. The performers update the program to incorporate the new technology, improving the program and enabling it to continue.
