INTERVENTION PLAN
Student Outcomes:
1. Demonstration of skills in locating information via computer software,
CD ROM, Internet and other resources available to them (eg. in the classroom,
media center, base library, home, etc.)
2. Knowledge to gather and interpret information from a wide range of
resources about states in the United States
3. Communication with a writing partner in the U.S.A. to utilize proper
letter writing structure and request data from the partner's state
4. Transfer of what students have learned about "their state" into a booklet,
to be completed at school and at home
5. Learn to work collaborately on projects related to the State
Booklet.
Teacher Outcomes:
1. Learn to use new technologies such as the Internet, Teacher's
Associate, and Shepherd
2. Access the Internet and other new technology to find educational
resources for Technology Insertion Plan
3. Teach the students how to use some of the new technology and
access information
4. Use T.A. and Shepherd to help make classroom management an
easier task (eg. assessment, communications, lesson planning, etc.)
Instructional Plan: The curricular and instructional focus of this TIP is to develop booklet based on research of a state in the United States, as selected by each student. The students will work in a variety of instructional modes, including cooperative small groups, large group instruction, and on an individual basis. They will use their booklets to integrate other curricular areas including writing, science, math, and media instruction. The students will communicate via the Internet with a partner that attends a school in the state they are researching and will track information on their state, such as weather data and will graph the data on weather from the by working with degrees and minutes regarding latitude and longitude in a special lesson designed to locate places in the USA. They will learn the elements of home page design and put their booklets on the Internet. The final product will be student designed and produced home pages to share with others information about each state.
Technology Support:
1. The Teacher Associate will be used as a tool to access standards, lesson
plans, evaluation forms, personal note/reminders, communication forms,
criteria outlines/rubrics, etc.
2. The Shepherd will enable easy access to the Internet and serve as a
place to store high quality educational URL sites from the net
3. Selected CD ROM's and computer software will serve as sources of
information, provide platforms for student writing and provided
educational "games" that will help to reinforce skills being taught
4. Instructional videos will serve as additional sources of information
5. An Apple II computer lab will provide us with a place for large group
instruction in skills using latitude and longitude to locate places in
the U.S.A.
6. 2 MAC LC IIs (1 with a CD player) and my multimedia POGO PC (with CD ROM
player and modem).
TIP Assessment:
1. Demonstration of these skills to other students
2. Use of a score sheet adaptation of the state booklet
criteria outline as a type of rubric and conference with students
individually periodically as they work through the project
3. Evluation of students on 2 dimensions: Proper structure of
a letter using a rubric to evaluate; adequacy of information gathering
4. Use of a teacher designed score sheet to evaluate student booklets
5. Johnson & Johnson Cooperative Learning checklists will be adapted to the
collaborative skill being measured at the time
