California Building a Presence for Science (CABAP)

California is embarking on a new effort to build a statewide network of classroom science teachers, and provide them with science teaching resources and professional development opportunities. Building a Presence for Science (www.nsta.org/bap) is a nation-wide project of the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), supported by the ExxonMobil Foundation. A consortium of California science organizations has been funded by NSTA to implement this project in California. Lead organizations are WestEd, California Department of Education, California Science Teachers Association, K-12 Alliance, and California Science Project.

CABAP aims to:

• Enlist at least one Point of Contact (PoC) for science education per school throughout the state (minimum 6,000 schools)
  A Point of Contact is a classroom teacher who is an advocate and contact person for science in his or her individual school building.
• Establish a statewide network of approximately 300 Key Leaders
  A Key Leader is a person interested in serving in a leadership position to further science education in the K-12 system.
• Provide resources and professional development for the Key Leaders and Points of Contact.

We are currently seeking Key Leaders throughout the state who will each be responsible for recruiting 20 - 30 Points of Contact. For more information about becoming a key leader, click here.

We are very interested in hearing from teachers who want to be a Point of Contact at their school. A school can have one or many Points of Contact. For more information about becoming a Point of Contact for your school, click here.
