From Our CEO, Glen Harvey
As I reflect on the passing of another decade, I am incredibly proud of all that WestEd has accomplished. Over the past 10 years, we have extended our geographic reach, increased our staff to over 700 talented and dedicated individuals, and deepened our emphasis on supporting the whole child — from academic success to emotional and physical well-being. Most importantly for a mission-driven organization like WestEd, all of that progress has enabled us to have a wide-ranging impact in the field.
Our staff have helped boost student achievement through Reading Apprenticeship, Quality Teaching for English Learners, Carnegie Math Pathways, and many other services. Our researchers have conducted groundbreaking studies that have informed practitioners and influenced policy — such as research spotlighting a previously invisible achievement gap of students in foster care. We’ve trained thousands of early childhood educators, managed the nation’s largest statewide school climate survey, and spearheaded numerous federal technical assistance centers.
But there remains much more to be done in order to achieve our agency’s ambitious mission of success for every learner. Moving forward, WestEd is actively planning for the decade ahead, as we continue working tirelessly to support learning, healthy development, and equity in schools and communities across the country.
