Improving School Safety for Atlanta Public Schools

Our research and evaluation studies, professional development and technical assistance, and resources help strengthen the capacity of schools, communities, and service agencies to support their students, families, and other constituents in gaining the knowledge and skills needed to succeed — especially those in the most challenging circumstances.

Currently, the Comprehensive School Safety Initiative at WestEd, in partnership with Georgia State University and Atlanta Public Schools, is researching and developing a method to enhance school safety. Researchers are accomplishing this through a comprehensive examination of school, district, and community factors to identify and implement interventions consistent with local needs.

The research, the data, and tools will address a variety of safety measures including student behavior improvements, emergency preparedness, school policing, and community engagement.
