Congressional Briefing — Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) for STEM Teachers: Results From a Knowledge Synthesis

WestEd and the National Commission on Teaching and America’s Future (NCTAF) will present and release a new digest of their fall 2010 knowledge synthesis on an important topic in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education: Professional learning communities (PLCs) for STEM teachers.

Speakers at this congressionally sponsored event will summarize key findings for staff from the U.S. Congress, the National Science Foundation (NSF), the U.S. Department of Education, and other federal agencies, as well as representatives from educational organizations in STEM and the professional development field.

Key presenters will include:

  • Ted Britton, Associate Director, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics program, WestEd
  • Kathleen Fulton and Tom Carroll, Director and Associate Director, NCTAF
  • Joan Ferrini-Mundy, Assistant NSF Director, Education and Human Resources

Additional speakers will discuss implications of the report, and teachers will relate their personal experiences with PLCs.
