Continuing the Investing in Innovation Grant Program

Two bills recently introduced in Congress would continue the U.S. Department of Education’s Investing in Innovation (i3) grant program.

The i3 program began as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Grants from i3 aim to continue the development and large-scale distribution of promising education practices that are supported by solid research.

Three WestEd projects have won i3 grants:

“The federal i3 program is very important because it puts an emphasis on evidence,” says Augustus Mays, Director of Government Relations at WestEd.

The bills do propose some changes to the existing program, mainly placing more emphasis on rural schools and making more, smaller grants.
