In the wake of recent incidents of school violence, Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval issued an Executive Order establishing a school safety task force that will identify and recommend school safety practices best suited to be implemented in some or all of Nevada’s schools.

“School safety is one of the highest priorities for my administration,” Governor Sandoval stated in a March 29th press release. “I am very pleased by the caliber of individuals who have agreed to serve our state on this Task Force.”

Twenty-five people were selected for the Task Force, including Anthony Petrosino, Director of WestEd’s Justice and Prevention Research Center, who will serve as a non-voting resource. An initial report with short-term recommendations from the Task Force will be presented to the Governor on or before August 1, with a final report comprised of longer-term recommendations delivered to Governor Sandoval by November 30.

WestEd’s participation is being supported by the West Comprehensive Center, one of the regional technical assistance centers funded by the U.S. Department of Education to provide support to state education agencies.
