Quality Teaching for English Learners (QTEL) San Francisco Summer Institute: Quality Teaching for English Learners in the Era of the Common Core State Standards

This summer, invest five days to deepen and broaden your repertoire of practices for working with your English language learners (ELLs).

Quality Teaching for English Learners (QTEL) at WestEd professional development invites you to explore and experience powerful classroom interactions that scaffold ELLs’ participation in the rigorous disciplinary learning described in the Common Core State Standards.

QTEL will offer seven courses in San Francisco, CA:

    • Scaffolding Mathematics for ELLs
    • Teaching ESL to English Language Learners at the Beginning Level
    • Spanish Institute: Desarrollo de Competencias Académicas en Español (New Course led by Viviana Galdames, Universidad Alberto Hurtado, Chile)
    • Teaching Writing with a Systemic Functional Linguistics Approach (New Course led by Beverly Derewianka, University of Wollongong, Australia)
  • For Instructional Leaders and Coaches
    • Quality Schools for ELLs: The Role of Leadership
    • Quality Schools for ELLs: The Role of Coaches

QTEL is also offering additional courses July 16-20, 2012, in Washington, D.C.
