Becca Klarin
Becca Klarin (formerly Hirschman) is a Senior Program Associate with the the Innovation Studies program and the Office of Research Integrity at WestEd. Klarin focuses on Common Core State Standards (CCSS) implementation at the state and local levels. She is the project manager on the evaluation of the Core to College Initiative. This evaluation synthesizes 11 states’ progress with CCSS implementation, and focuses on how these states:
  • Create statewide definitions of college and career readiness
  • Anticipate using the PARCC/SBAC assessments as part of decisions related to the placement of students into credit-bearing college courses
  • Align K-12/postsecondary policy and instructional systems to CCSS
Klarin also contributes to the evaluation of Math in Common, a project that facilitates the implementation of CCSS in mathematics in 10 California school districts. She has collaborated on projects including:
  • The Regional Educational Laboratory West's impact study on the Problem-Based Economics curriculum
  • California's Career Technical Education needs assessment
  • An evaluation of the implementation of consistent teaching strategies across a Bay Area school district
  • A resource guide for smaller learning communities grantees on improving the quality and use of postsecondary data
As WestEd's IRB Administrator, Klarin facilitates the Institutional Review Board process and human research protection program, which are housed within the Office of Research Integrity. She collaborates with various departments on compliance and data security practices. She received a BA in history and dance from Connecticut College and an MA in education with a focus in curriculum & teacher education and arts education from Stanford University.
