Colleen Montoya
Colleen Montoya serves as Senior Digital Communications Strategist for WestEd's Communications Department. Montoya conceptualizes, writes, edits, and promotes online content and products that have a positive impact on target audiences nationwide. Her primary responsibility is overseeing content strategy, development, and web analytics for the agency website, WestEd.org. She collaborates with staff across the agency to ensure information about their projects, research and evaluation studies, services, expertise, and more is not only published on WestEd.org, but is presented in such a way that resonates with target audiences. Montoya also regularly implements and provides staff with best practices for effective web content, including search engine optimization strategies. She also works closely with staff on content development for their project-related web initiatives, including project websites and social media pages; oversees WestEd's award-winning E-Bulletin, a monthly e-newsletter highlighting the agency's work, products, and services; and serves on the agency's Social Media Team. She previously served as Executive Editor of the award-winning Policy Perspectives, a series of papers that presents renowned visiting authors' own views and/or research on issues relevant to schools and communities nationwide. Montoya also developed, launched, and served as Executive Editor of WestEd's R&D Alert, a newsletter focusing on education and human development topics of national interest. Under her leadership, R&D Alert won several awards including the Association of Educational Publishers' 2002 Distinguished Achievement Award under the category of "Best Newsletter" nationwide. Prior to joining WestEd in 1990, Montoya served as an education reporter for the Stevens Point Journal. She received a BA and MS, both in journalism, from Humboldt State University and Northwestern University, respectively.
