Yvonne Allen is a Research Associate for Culturally Responsive & Equitable Systems at WestEd. She provides support in research writing and technical assistance for state, regional, and local education agencies to build a diverse educator workforce, and promote culturally responsive and sustaining teaching, leadership, and school cultures.
Allen has expertise and experience as an educator across various levels and disciplines, including early childhood education. She was previously a classroom teacher, assistant director and technical assistance provider for childcare facilities in Florida, and a secondary intensive reading teacher in a nonresidential juvenile justice school. She most recently served as researcher at SRI International.
Allen also has experience as an ELL teacher working with Arabic speaking students in Doha, Qatar and working with Tuskegee University and Black Belt nonprofit organizations to develop and implement health education programming and services aimed at addressing health inequities in communities of color.
She holds a bachelor’s in elementary education with reading and ESOL from Saint Leo University, a master’s in public administration and graduate certificate in data analysis and policy evaluation from Auburn University at Montgomery.
