CenterView: No Child Left Behind Implementation Update
This issue of CenterView, produced by the Center for the Future of Teaching and Learning at WestEd, provides an update on California’s progress in meeting the requirement under No Child Left Behind (NCLB) that all teachers are “highly qualified.”
In 2004-05, NCLB-compliant teachers taught 74 percent of all core academic classes, yet the state’s high-minority schools reported fewer “highly qualified” teachers than the low-minority schools.
The Center recommends providing a strong base for strengthening the teacher workforce and bringing California into compliance with federal NCLB regulations.
