Going to Egg Island – Teacher's Text (Grade 2)
Description
The teacher’s text of the Going to Egg Island: Adventures in Grouping and Place Values curriculum kit (full kit includes teacher’s text, storybook, CD-ROM, coloring book, and poster).
Using the story of a Yup’ik Eskimo girl’s first trip to gather eggs, Going to Egg Island introduces second graders to the mathematics concepts of counting and grouping. The first in the Math in a Cultural Context series, this curriculum kit uses objects and examples commonly found in the Yup’ik culture—foodstuffs, tools, everyday objects—to put mathematics in a broader cultural context. Students learn not only about the pragmatic uses of mathematics, but also about the world.
Repeated research trials of the Math in a Cultural Context series have shown improved students’ math performance when compared to similar groups of students who have used the school’s regular curriculum.
Going to Egg Island: Adventures in Grouping and Place Values can be purchased as a full kit, or the Storybook or Teacher’s Text alone. Please click below for more information.
