The Western Educational Equity Assistance Center and the Region 13 and 15 Comprehensive Centers partnered with the National Indian Education Association and the University of New Mexico’s Center for Participatory Research to develop a webinar series to share information and resources for strengthening the collection and use of American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) student data. In the series, educational leaders and practitioners shared innovative practices and policies for effective data use to improve Native students’ learning opportunities and outcomes.
This brief summarizes the May 22, 2024, webinar in which tribal and state education leaders shared their visions and achievements in redesigning systemic data collection and governance approaches to transform outcomes for American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) students. The discussion provided a rich tapestry of insights into how tribal nations can manage, utilize, and safeguard their data to support self-determination and sovereignty.
