Principles of Practice and Partnerships Tribal Data Collection and Governance Webinar Series, Session 1

The Western Educational Equity Assistance Center and the Region 13 and 15 Comprehensive Centers partnered with the National Indian Education Association and the University of New Mexico’s Center for Participatory Research to develop a webinar series to share information and resources for strengthening the collection and use of American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) student data. In the series, educational leaders and practitioners shared innovative practices and policies for effective data use to improve Native students’ learning opportunities and outcomes.
This brief summarizes the March 27, 2024, convening in which participants explored the definitions of Indigenous data sovereignty and data governance. The session examined how Indigenous peoples seek to transform power imbalances by centering Indigenous methodologies and values to ensure effective data practices that help improve outcomes for AI/AN students.
