What You Will Learn

School and district administrators participating in Academic Parent-Teacher Teams (APTT) will learn to develop systems and processes that grow and sustain effective family engagement practices aligned to their improvement goals.

Teachers will gain the confidence and skills necessary to engage families as true partners in their children’s education and academic success.

In addition, participants will:

  • Integrate family engagement into a school’s curricula, instruction, and assessment
  • Prioritize family outreach to focus on efforts that produce results for students
  • Develop home and school partnerships focused on student grade-level learning goals
  • Give families information and skills to support student learning
  • Facilitate APTT meetings with families that are engaging, inspirational, and dynamic
  • Build community and create a school culture that honors families as partners
  • Help families feel empowered to support their children’s grade-level learning goals

Service Details

Service Formats

We provide four formats for APTT, depending on your needs:

  • APTT Family Engagement Institute (2 days)
  • APTT training and technical assistance for school and district leaders and faculty (over the course of one year or more)
  • APTT Train-the-Trainer training and technical assistance to empower school leadership teams to become the trainers and coaches for their own schools (over the course of one year or more)
  • Presentations for school and district leaders exploring research and evidence-based solutions in family engagement

What’s Included

  • Initial on-site 2-day training
  • WestEd-developed planning and implementation resources (electronic and hard copy format) for teachers and administrators
  • On-site support for teachers planning and preparing for APTT team meetings (3 cycles per year)
  • Classroom observations followed by debrief sessions and written feedback (3 cycles per year)
  • Planning, support, and facilitation of a family focus group at the end of the year
  • Assistance with data collection, analysis, and evaluation (as an added service)

The price of services is based on the service model selected by the school or district, and will be included in a service proposal. In most instances, services are customized to fit the needs and goals of the school or district.
